Neighbourhood Watch.....

The Cotes and Trees Neighbourhood Watch Group (Chairman, Mrs Barbara Rawlings) is very active in the Tile Hill area of Westwood Ward. It is co-operating with the Police over a Neighbourhood Watch Day from 10.00 (10AM) to 15.00 (3PM) on Saturday 14 June, near the shops in Tile Hill Lane approaching the A45. The Police will man a caravan to give information and advice; there will be a prize giving for children who have taken part in a picture competition to discourage litter; and an Older Peoples' Forum stall. Donations for a tombola will be welcome, and can be dropped off in advance at the Victoria Gardens Care Home at 328 Tile Hill Lane (024-7646-6602). Developments - submitted by Cllr. David Skinner....

I am often asked about proposed building in or near our Ward, and the following is a partial roundup. The Tile Hill College site in Tile Hill Lane is attracting attention. The College itself is being demolished and approval has been given for the following; The Northern section of the site, to be developed by JS Bloor, will have 41 apartments and 90 houses. The Southern section of the site, to be developed by Accord Housing, will provide 60 apartments, 63 dwellings, 45 sheltered / care apartments and 17 sheltered / care bungalows. Mr Marcus Fothergill, Principal Planning Officer (South), tells me; "With regard to time scales, given the economic climate, it is difficult to speculate on completion, however I would suggest that 5 years would be a reasonable time for total completion of both schemes". Mr Fothergill's office on telephone 024 76831308 can give more detailed information if required. I also remind residents of the Warwick District Council exhibition about their possible building plans on Friday 20 June (10:00 - 19:00) at Cannon Park Shopping Centre, Coventry. Canley Regeneration is moving along well, with the very modern Xcel Centre in Mitchell Avenue opening soon. And Warwick University has ambitious plans for development. I yesterday (Saturday) heard the Vice-Chancellor himself stress the University's determination to be among the very best centres of learning in the entire world, so there is plenty going on in our general area.

Tile Hill Station Question????? sumbmitted by Sarah Cockrill

I have recently moved to Tile Hill and I am trying to find out the history of the building on Station Avenue right by the underpass, it looks like it had a glass top to its roof at one point. Until recently it has lain derelict but it seems it is now being renovated. Do you know what the building will be used for when the building work is complete? I pass it every day when I go to the station and I have always wondered what it was used for. Thanks Sarah

If anyone knows please email info@tilehill.net, we'll publish the answer here.

Tile Hill Village....

submitted by Paul Houghton, local resident
Please find attached picture of Tile Hill Village and Tanyard Farm taken about 40 years ago. This was the farm in Tile Hill before Tanyard Farm estate was built. It is called Plants Hill Cresent wood on the corner of Hathaway Rd near to the petrol station and bank. Taken by Jon Bywater when he was about eight years old from a tree which he subsequently fell out and broke the camera. Gladly he survived to tell the tale. Please feel free to add it to your website. Best Regards Paul Houghton.
